For the fifth year running, WrestleZone returned to rock the Beach Ballroom on Saturday 17th June. Superstar guests, title matches and the biggest night of pro-wrestling were on the card for a packed audience for Aberdeen Anarchy 2017.

With the dust settling on a huge night of action at the historic Beach Ballroom, we recap the top 10 moments from the best night of action seen in the North-east for a very long time!

1 – SHAWN JOHNSON WINS GOLD

The seismic shift in the WrestleZone occurred in the night’s main event as Shawn Johnson, the 2017 Regal Rumble winner, defeated Scotty Swift to win the top prize! Shawn’s victory was not pure as he had the help of Sterling Oil’s newest member (more on that below) to end the reign of the “Red-Haired Warrior” and bring the gold back to the Sterling Oil clan. Winning the championship marks a career high for the former Granite City Hotshot who now embarks on a new era where he is the man to beat in the WrestleZone. Having emerged from this big match with the gold around his waist, it will be interesting to see if Shawn can continue to punch above his weight with several big challenges along the way!

2- CRUSHER CRAIB IS BACK!

The news was greeted with a roar as the “Creator of Carnage” outlined his intention to return to action at Battle of the Nations, but by the end-of-the-night, Crusher had clearly made his mark. Having been seriously injured in last year’s Anarchy main event, the Crusher returned to end the reign of Scotty Swift and reveal himself to be the newest recruit of Sterling Oil. The big boot delivered to Swift’s face shocked the Beach Ballroom, but Crusher Craib looks to be in the best shape of his life and he has pinpointed the former champ as the man to blame for his misery.

3- ASPEN FAITH CLIMBS THE LADDER TO SUCCESS

The “King of Catch” secured his first singles gold in an incredible ladder match that had all the twists and turns we expected from four top competitors. Faith along with Zach Dynamite, Bingo Ballance and Bryan Tucker gave everything they had to become the inaugural Tri-Counties Champion, but in the end Faith triumphed after trapping both Ballance and Tucker behind ladders. His last act was to break the fingers of ZD as he looked to grasp the belt, and instead it was the “King of Catch” who took his throne as the new champion to represent the great areas of WrestleZone rule.

4- RICHARD R. RUSSELL’S HUMILIATING NIGHT!

Matters at the Beach Ballroom were not all great for Sterling Oil as Richard R. Russell had his lowest night ever! Having put up his hair to give William and Alan one more shot at the Rejected and the tag titles, Mikkey Vago and Chris Archer compounded the misery by once again beating the brothers to retain the championships – meaning Russell faced the barber’s chair! Trying to avoid it, Russell was knocked out and by the time he woke-up, the job was half-done and Triple R was bald!!! The Beach Ballroom loved this but the shrieks from the Sterling Oil strategist suggest he may take some time to recover from this night.

5- RIKISHI, GRADO AND MR. P IN RIOTIOUS MOOD

The arrival of the WWE Hall of Famer and his pairing with WrestleZone favourites Mr. P and Grado drew a lot of attention here, but it was clear that Andy Wild, Sha Samuels and Kid Fite were out to ruin the party! But in the end, the trio managed to win the night after a huge Stink Face to “Unstoppable” Wild had him puking in the middle of the ring. It was over to Mr. P to score the decisive pinfall and then, it was time to DANCE! The Beach Ballroom was electric as Rikishi got down with his Scottish friends and then thanked us all for the love he had received – a truly unforgettable experience and one of the best moments in Aberdeen Anarchy history

6 - BATTLE OF THE BIG MEN

The self-proclaimed battle would see Lou King Sharp for the very first time in his career enter a bout as the bigger man, but by the end it was former WWE star Hornswoggle standing tall! Swoggle took your mother’s favourite wrestler to suplex city, post cade AB24 as the Beach Ballroom roared Swoggle onto action thanks to the Tadpole Splash. With LKS in a tantrum, Swoggle showed a touch of class in thanking Aberdeen for the experience – but thanks to him the pint-sized Glasgow grappler may think twice about writing cheques he can’t cash in the future!

7 - TABLE WARS PROVE FIT FOR “QUEEN”

Former WWE star Melina was ringside as two of the top women in Europe collided in WrestleZone’s first-ever tables match! Viper and Sammii Jayne engaging in a gruelling war and Viper thought she had it won when Sammii dropped through the table, only for the referee to rule that you have to drill our opponent through the table! Going high risk, Viper was unfortunately taken for the ride by the “Queen of Catch” who won the match with a Top Rope Rana. But Sammii picked a fight too far as she egged-on Melina, who dropped her nice nature to blast Sammii with a forearm and send her packing!

8 – A DIZZY NIGHT FOR DAMIEN

Aberdeen Anarchy’s opening matches never disappoint, and this year it was over to Johnny Lions and Damien to deliver. These two put on a clinic, former tag team partners matching each other, all watched by Evening Express sports editor Sean Wallace who was ringside with the “Tenacious One”. However, Damien’s ego was out of control as protested with Wallace after he let the referee know about an infringement, but Damien found himself shoved down by the sports supremo, and Lions followed this up with a Flying Lion Cutter for the victory; his first at the Aberdeen Beach Ballroom!

9 – A BAD NIGHT FOR LORD MR. MALICE

The pre-show of Aberdeen Anarchy is always a warm-up affair, and this year Lord Mr. Malice was defeated by Bradley Evans in impressive fashion, a tag team bout with partners Blue Thunder and Nathan North showing the value of the WrestleZone Training Academy. Still dazed, Malice made a mistake in interrupting Crusher Craib’s announcement – coming to the ring carried in a rickety throne that looked set to collapse! But the Big Boot he received certainly brought him back down to earth and Jeeves Winchester made the wisest decision of his life in getting out of Crusher’s way!

10 – A BIG THANK YOU…TO YOU!

Aberdeen Anarchy is nothing without the fans. The great atmosphere you bring, the enthusiasm, always help with our biggest show of the year! Our guests Rikishi, Hornswoggle and Melina loved meeting you all and we are delighted to once again sign-off another successful night under the stars at the Beach Ballroom. Is everyone ready to do it again next year?
